Online venue

Overview

SnowHydro2022 will take place in a virtual convention center powered by gather town. This environment will allow you to listen to live online presentations in a large auditorium, to discuss posters with the presenters at their booth, to meet your colleagues for a break-out discussion, or to just to sit down with your peers for an informal chat. Below you will find more information on the meeting platform.

Layout of the virtual convention center

The convention center will consist of 1) a main entrance hall with a front desk, 2) a main auditorium for the oral presentations, 3) a poster hall, and 4) a large lounge for individual meetings, spontaneous discussions, and chit-chat. The front desk will be open Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning, during all breaks, and during the poster sessions, but will be unattended during the oral sessions. A detailed map of the virtual convention center is available in the manual.

Manual to gather town

Gather town enables direct communication via sound / video with those people that are within the virtual convention center in your proximity. Moving towards a person will enable, moving away will disable this person's sound / video. The oral presentations will be handled via an embedded zoom session. But all other activities including the poster sessions will take place within the gather space. A general manual for moving around in a virtual environment and interacting with other participants, as well as tipps and hints more specific to the SnowHydro2022 meeting is available here.

Technical requirements

We ask all participants to use a headset to avoid uncessesary echo effects for the others. To be identifyable by your colleagues we ask you to name your avatar by your full name (first name followed by surname) without extra information (such as your affiliation). As we pay per participant we must further ask you to register in order to join the meeting. Only registered participants will be sent the link to the meeting platform.

Preparing your presentation

Prepare your oral presentation as usual (powerpoint, pdf, or equivalent), share your screen to present.

Posters need to be submitted as image files (preferably .PNG, but .JPG works as well). Prepare your poster as usual (powerpoint, pdf, or equivalent) but then save / convert them to PNG. File size may not exceed 3 MB. Best viewing is obtained at 2000 x 1125 pixel output resolution, 16:9 ratio, landscape mode. Avoid excessive text, microprint, and too much content to be viewed on a single screen. Upload information is available under logistsics on the first page of the program.

Getting started

We will open the virtual convention center on Monday, the 31st of January, in the morning. A virtual ice breaker event will take place in the later afternoon. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the platform, move around the facility, get a first glimpse of the posters, and ask us questions at the front desk. We recommend that you participate the ice breaker event, so that any technical problems you may encounter can be solved before we start the conference.
